I love vintage homes from the 40s and 50s. Our first home was built in the 40s and we loved it. The big rooms, the great closets with drawers underneath, and the wood paneling and fireplace in the master bedroom are all still alive in my mind along with all the sweet family memories we created during the many years we lived in it.
Yesterday, I spotted a 1950s home that took me back to those simple times when my children were young and life seemed easier. Just like in my case, the family selling the home raised their children here. But the kids have moved out and this lovely home is now enjoying its new family enjoying the gorgeous hardwood floors, the huge kitchen, and the two bedrooms and bath on the main floor, not to mention a basement with two more bedrooms, a 3/4 bathroom, AND a 200 square foot shop room!
WOW! Nowadays, people immediately think “Mancave” or “quilting room.” My husband and kids would have turned it into a model train extravaganza! They would probably even have had tracks running from one room to another. Then again, with the double garage this lovely property has, they probably would have staked their claim to that and I would have made the room into a family office. Isn’t that a gorgeous view to look out onto from an office?
And guess what! It has almost 1/2 acre AND it’s in an award-winning school district! Sweet! Hmmmm, almost makes me wish my kids were young again. Wait a minute! It would be a grand place with the grandkids come to visit too! Wouldn’t they love this built-in bench in the garden!
Whatever direction the next owners go in, I know it will be grand and a great home to build lovely new memories full of fun, laughter, tears, joy, and more. This well kept vintage home (with a five-year new furnace!) offers so many great possibilities, now matter what the needs. I love that in a home, don’t you?
P.S. With spring coming soon, there is so much lovely blue in my photos today – so enjoy a grand Anything Blue Friday at the Dedicated House. And HOORAY for SPRING!
