Fab 40s For Extended Family Fun

Cute-bungalow-with-multigenerational-mother-in-law-quartersThe 1940s – famous for World War II as well as the development of so many grand things, including radar, jet aircraft, the jeep, the microwave, and (to my grandkids’ delight) the Slinky and the Frisbee.

Many fun movies came out of the 40s like It’s a Wonderful Life, Yankee Doodle Dandy, and one of my favorites – Meet Me In St. Louis with Judy Garland. And best of all, if you asked my parents, the popular music was Swing. During the 40s – and in reruns since, we’ve enjoyed performances by Rita Hayworth, Clark Gable, Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Lucille Ball, and so many more.

And during the 40s, many wonderful homes were built, often with larger rooms than are usually built today. Sturdy homes. Homes like you find in Sacramento’s famous “Fab 40s.” And YES. We have many of these “Fab 40s” in our neck of the woods as well.

I visited one delightful “Fab 40s” home recently that has been beautifully updated and remodeled, complete with a basement living quarters that a spry mother-in-law or an independent college student could easily enjoy. (That can be a possible option for a multigenerational family need! 🙂 ) And there’s still plenty of room on the top two floors for many purposes and projects.

Saturday this bedroom is delight in well-remodeled old homes

I loved this cute retro style bedroom set with plenty of pinks for Pink Saturday. How about you? Notice the fashionable lamp at top? Simple yet stylish home decor.

I love this blue wall for Anything Blue Friday

And yes, there’s blue for Anything Blue Friday as well. This living room/play room is nice sized and I love the kids table set. I’ve had similar ones in all my homes until recently – for my grandkids to enjoy. They’re usually priced according to my budget and fun for them to work on fun games and easy crafts for kids AND all of us boomers and seniors helping them.

Fab 40s homes are vintage old houses and this one in University Place is grand with a large kitchen and pretty blue counter

A generous sized kitchen is always a big help. Particularly for me, when I might have one or more grandkids visiting, plus my senior mom bustling around cooking. That’s one of the things I always look for – big kitchens to fit all of us comfortably. 🙂

A lovely bathroom in the beautifully remodeled vintage home - and pink for Pink Saturday

Isn’t this a pretty bathroom – especially the sink and cupboard? And lovely tile around the tub too!One of the lovely old vintage homes for sale a while backThis is, indeed, a lovely home to visit or live in. A sweet place to sit back on a comfy couch, put my feet up on the coffee table (shhh, don’t tell on me 🙂 ), and enjoy the lovely and mature landscaping surrounding this lovely “Fab 40s” home. Hmmmm, I do believe it’s so cozy I’ll sit and enjoy Judy Garland singing, “Clang Clang Clang Goes the Trolley” while reading the Grand Social. Have a terrific week!
